July 1, 2026 Rockport Educational Half-Day AM Trip
I had Mary M. out for a half-day morning trip in Rockport on July 1, and it turned into a great hands-on bay fishing experience. The morning gave us some visible black drum action, plenty of time to work with the group, and a good chance to make the trip both fun and educational.

What's Biting
We had black drum in the mix during this morning trip, and the photos from the day show that action clearly. There was also another bay fish brought boat-side.
Since the full catch list was not recorded, I’m keeping this report focused on what we can confirm. The main takeaway is simple: we had fish to work with, the group stayed involved, and the morning gave everyone a chance to learn and enjoy the water.

What Was Slow
No slow species were reported from this trip. Rather than guessing at fish that were not confirmed, I’ll just say this was a good educational morning with steady attention on helping the group fish, learn, and stay comfortable.
Captain Blake's Notes
On a half-day morning trip, my goal is to make the time count. I want guests to understand what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and how to feel more confident on the water.
For this trip, that meant helping with gear, explaining the bite, assisting with fish handling, and keeping the group involved from start to finish. Mary M. shared that I was attentive, informative, and fun to fish with, and that is exactly the kind of experience I try to provide.
What This Means For Anglers
If you’re looking for a Rockport half-day fishing trip, this is a good example of what I like to offer: real bay action, helpful instruction, and a relaxed trip where guests feel taken care of.
